About Us
Who Are We?
My name is Maria Brunner Ventura. As the founder of Sage Spirit Farm, my intentions are to protect this species-under-threat by educating the community about the thoughtful harvesting of White Sage--that is, taking only what you need. My first encounter with White Sage was after a sweat lodge. My dear friend, Lisa O. quietly guided me on how to thoughtfully collect the branches, offer water and herb, and take care of "Mama Sage" in a good way. After learning about and experiencing this plant's healing and ceremonial smoke as well as the art of bundling without being wasteful, I knew I had found a higher calling.
Mission Statement
Our mission is to protect and preserve White Sage in the wild. We do so by facilitating a healthy, deep-rooted connection between ourselves and our backyard farm. Sage Spirit Farm is a community that holds space to build relationships so people can learn about white sage as well as themselves. We encourage seekers to grow their own seeds and learn the seasonal cycles in order to continue to honor the importance of this wild, medicinal plant.
Vision
Sage Spirit Farm is focused on education and providing the community with White Sage. The indigenous ceremonies connected to this precious, sacred plant (never intended for commerce) have been commercialized --and some might suggest--culturally-appropriated. In the future, we hope to raise awareness, help foster a "gift economy" and maintain the stories and medicine of White Sage, both for the ancestors and the generations to come.
Community
We strive to make a positive impact and have the utmost pride in cultivating and sharing White Sage within the community and for anyone feeling a relation to the plant.
